Marketing for Arts

Through this blog post, I will be sharing with you the motivation factors and social media promotion strategies used by the event.

Motivation factors

1. Enhancing kinship and family togetherness
Most parents are working on weekdays and the weekend is the only time that get to spend it with their children. Instead of staying at home, families can visit various activities around Punggol. Jazz for kids by Hummingbird Music encourage parents to guide their children to navigate around the music performance.

This helps to enhance the family relationship as they get to participate in the activities together. Most importantly, Arts in Your Neighbourhood is free which means that they can engage in their family togetherness with no charge.

2. Reminiscence of childhood

The activity allows the adults to reminiscence their childhood as it is one of their all-time favourite game. Through the activity, parents can share stories about the game with their children.

3. Education enrichment
Arts in Your Neighbourhood is a good platform for children to learn about art and music culture. They get to understand the background design of the five stones, learning how storytelling and puppetry can combine with Teochew music. Besides that, they can also learn how we can incorporate art into our daily lives through a show by Cahin-Caha. These motivate children to gain new knowledge of art through attending the event.

There is a range of activities available at Arts in Your Neighbourhood such as public art installations, interactive art programme, musical show and dance performance. This allows the attendees to choose the type of art that they wish to visit based on their interests.

Social Media promotion strategies

1. Facebook
Arts in Your Neighbourhood set up an event calendar on Facebook to provide the Facebook user with the information before the start of the event. This helps to capture the attention and create the excitement of those who wish to attend.

There was live steaming of two of its music performance (Fun with Music - A Trip to the Zoo! & 7 Wonders of Punggol) on Facebook. Both live streaming are viewed by 1.7K & 1.1K Facebook user respectively. This help to reach out to the wider circumference of the audience as they can view the performance anywhere on their mobile phone.

After the event, attendees can share their pictures and thoughts on their Facebook with their friends. This will attract people with common interest to visit the event. One example is from our minister Mr Ng Chee Meng. He posted a few pictures with himself in it and mentioned that he had a good time trying different activities at Punggol.

2. Instagram
Art in Your Neighbourhood uses National Art Council's Instagram page and stories to advertise its programmes before the event. They keep the attendees in suspense by providing a sneak peek of selective events.

They also use NAC's Instagram stories to update their audience on its current programme. Viewers can head down if they are nearby or are interested to view the show. They use the platform to remind people about its upcoming programme.

After the event, attendees are encouraged to include #artsinyourneighbourhood on their Instagram posts.

Overall, I felt that the event organiser did a good job of using the social media platform to advertise the event. Information on various activities is being circulated on the internet which allows the event-goers to know what to expect at the event. Pictures that are shared play a part in helping to promote the event as it provides scenes that are not being shared by the organisers.
